A team led by Dr. Keogh has won the ACM SIGKDD test-of-time award! The award recognizes outstanding papers from past KDD Conferences beyond the last decade that have had an important impact on the data mining research community.

At a time when most researchers were struggling to search time series datasets with a mere million objects, the paper, “Searching and mining trillions of time series subsequences under dynamic time warping” expanded the community's abilities by many orders of magnitude [a][b].

Interestingly, the paper in question also won the best-paper award ten years ago. Many best papers tend not to live up to their promise, this is the first time a single paper has won both awards at SIGKDD.

The award will be presented at ACM SIGKDD 2022 in Washington D.C [a]. There is a cash prize with the award. Rather than split it seven ways, the team has decided to give the award to the first author, to distribute it to disadvantaged students at his university (Kasetsart University in Thailand).
