ChatGSPP is an AI-powered chatbot developed by the Goldman School of Public Policy that intelligently navigates information about our faculty, staff, programs, and research initiatives. This interactive demo will showcase how we've implemented a conversational interface that analyzes user queries, retrieves appropriate content from our existing web resources, and delivers responses with proper source attribution. The session will demonstrate how the chatbot serves diverse stakeholders including prospective students, policy professionals, researchers, and policymakers seeking to engage with our institution. Learn about our technical architecture, implementation challenges, and how this tool has enhanced user experience by making complex academic information more accessible through AI-assisted navigation.

Our team needed to integrate diverse data streams to dynamically identify patients at risk and proactively distribute tailored resources to empower them to protect their respiratory health. Our team needed to identify when high risk patients with respiratory conditions were experiencing poor air quality caused by wildfire smoke. We worked collaboratively with clinical subject matter experts (SME) to define the appropriate target patient population and air quality thresholds. Three wildfire MyChart letter templates were developed, each providing actionable recommendations, which was developed locally by SME’s. A Tableau Wildfire Alert Report was created and is linked to the Epic workbench reports. Occasional data inaccessibility from upstream sources (EPA, NASA) required process reruns. This pilot program demonstrated the potential of the wildfire alert system to improve patient care during wildfires, with future efforts focusing on optimizing the system's accuracy and scalability.

<div>
<div>Session Track Reasoning</div>
Large-scale wildfires can significantly contribute to poor air quality during active fire events through the release of various pollutants. Our patient population is directly affected by these wildfires and the increase in poor air quality, especially those diagnosed with Asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). This project sought to create an intelligent alert system using both internal (Electronic Health Record (Epic)) and external (Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Aeronautics Space Administration (NASA)) data sources to support patients with respiratory conditions during wildfires. </div>

This poster will highlight the impact of the APeX Enabled Research (AER) team on implementing clinical and technical innovations at UCSF. The poster will explain the primary goals of the team, volume of project work, and breadth of technologies used to support research innovation. Ideally UC Tech attendees will learn more about what is technically possible today to support research, get inspiration for projects at their organization, get connected with others doing similar work, and lead to future collaboration and innovation across UC campuses. The AER team has supported dozens of research implementations over the last six years and would love an opportunity to share our learnings with the UC Tech community.

In this session, we will share our experience migrating our Learning Management System from on-premises to AWS. We will walk through designing a scalable and secure cloud infrastructure using CloudFormation, automating deployments with AWS CodePipeline, orchestrating containers with ECS Fargate, and managing databases with Amazon RDS. The migration process involved moving code via GitHub, files with AWS DataSync, and the database through DBMS export/import. We will also discuss how adopting ECS Fargate enabled environment consistency between local development and production, leveraging Docker for improved efficiency and deployment reliability. Additionally, we will highlight the role of AWS ECR in enhancing security and operational efficiency throughout the migration.

Our Instructional Design and Technology team was tasked with tracking learning objective achievement in Extension courses to support WASC accreditation. Canvas offers an "Outcomes" feature, but WASC also requires instructors to reflect on how their course design supports student success. While staff could help instructors brainstorm improvements, a more scalable method was needed. We developed a chatbot using Playlab, enabling instructors to input course titles and design elements they do or do not support (e.g., variety of assignments, social presence, use of media, rich feedback, real-world examples, collaboration, accessibility). The chatbot responds with strategies to improve teaching, assessment, or student engagement. Instructors then add their selected strategy to a checklist, which we track for WASC compliance. Afterward, they’re invited to learn how to build their own chatbots, promoting the integration of AI into teaching and learning at Extension.

UC San Diego Health is reimagining how healthcare systems operate by integrating artificial intelligence, automation, and real-time dashboards to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and support high reliability. This session shares how our Clinical Quality Improvement and Patient Safety teams partnered with data and technology experts to streamline manual processes—such as quality measure abstraction and CMS reporting—through the use of large language models and smart dashboards. Attendees will gain practical insights into how these tools were implemented, how change was managed across clinical and IT teams, and the measurable outcomes that followed. This is a real-world case study in transforming complexity into clarity, and data into action.

The previous SSIS/Python ETL was viewed as antiquated, disjointed and problematic for maintenance and reliability. A modern embedded data solution centered around a user defined data mart which would act as the catalyst for driving informed decision making and supporting prioritized initiatives from executive leaders was seen as the solution. There were two sets of goals, create a self-service data layer for ad hoc questions, a recurring reporting solution and support KPI metric dashboards. The team sought a democratized solution, rapid cycle improvement, scalability, and ability to move from on-prem to cloud when the time came. The solution that stood out was dbt, chosen for its data transformation capabilities. We have successfully created more than a dozen gold-level tables in our production environment with an increase in efficiency and reliability since implementing the open-source solution. The result has improved collaboration, change tracking and version control via Git.

<p class="speaker-bio"> </p><p>Matthew Crase is the Supervisor, Clinical Informatics in the Office of Population Health and Accountable Care and has been at UCDH since 2019. Before taking on this role, Matthew came to UC Davis as a member of the Quality Initiatives and Reporting in the Quality and Safety Department at UCDH. His focus at Quality and Safety was direct technical support for the Quality Initiative Program (QIP). Matthew brings a quality background to his current position; prior he worked for over eight years at the California Correctional Health Care Services for the Quality Management department. He has a BA in Political Science from UC Santa Barbara. Matthew has consistently utilized data-driven approaches throughout his career to foster support and implement enduring changes that significantly benefit patients.</p>

The work that the Clinical Informatics team focuses on for the office they support is centered around data driven decision making. As a team which is embedded with their immediate customers, we focus on making data easy to access and use, weather that is through self-service tools or data visualization using Power BI. We have generated technical infrastructure where previously there was none, or it was outdated and archaic. </div>

<div>Session Track Reasoning</div>
Developing and scaling generative AI tools across all mission areas of a healthcare, research, and educational UC requires continuous adapting to once in a generation speed technological landscape. Transformationally powerful new AI technologies are released on a monthly basis, requiring rapid adaptation and unquenchable user demand. When every aspect of what the team is building is new, this sits squarely in the Innovation track but is also a new way of building scalable Systems and Solutions in a rapidly changing landscape. </div>
