Elijah Hall serves as S2P Fellow for Congressman Mark Takano

Elijah Hall is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Evolutionary Biology. He recently completed a six month fellowship in the Office of Congressman Mark Takano (CA 39th), Riverisde's Representative. Elijah looked at California state allocation of federal funding to counties. Current allocations are based on rules set in 2011, which may not accurately represent how counties have changed in the last decade. The 2022-2023 Program Report was released in June 2023 for the Japan-U.S. Science Communication and Policy Fellowship Network. This fellowship network was created in partnership with Science to Policy at UCR. Notably, 5 S2P Alumni participated in the inaugural program ye: Lilian Azer, Sarah Bobardt, William Ota, Jenna Roper, and Agnes Varghese. The 150 page report details the training program, in-person symposium in Okinawa, Japan, invited speakers, and contains the fellows policy briefs and op-eds that were prepared during the course. 2023 Science Policy Showcase at Palm Desert Center

On Tuesday, April 4th, five S2P graduate students competed in the Science Policy Showcase. PhD students pitched creative policy solutions to local issues - such as water conservation, light pollution, and dealing with a rapidly aging population. The Japan-U.S. Science Communication and Policy Fellowship promotes meaningful cooperation between the two countries on global challenges by bridging a critical gap between science and policy.
