UC Riverside Chancellor S. Jack Hu, who took office in July, was officially inaugurated as the campus’s 10th chancellor Thursday, Feb. 5 at a ceremony where he celebrated the university’s past and shared his vision for its future.
In an inaugural address delivered to family, friends, the UCR campus community, and local and state dignitaries at the University Theatre, Hu expressed his gratitude for the welcome he’s received since he began his new role.</description>

U.S. News &amp;amp; World Report has again named UC Riverside the No. 1 university in the nation for social mobility. This is the seventh year that U.S. News has featured a breakout category for social mobility. UCR has been ranked No. 1 for five of those seven years; it was No. 2 the other two years.
For the second consecutive year, UCR tied for the top ranking with Florida International University.</description>

UC Riverside will open its newest student residential community this week, continuing efforts to meet housing demands with a first-of-its-kind partnership.
Close to 250 students from Riverside Community College District, or RCCD, will be the first to move into North District 2 on Aug. 23, in advance of their fall semester starting the following week. UCR students will move in Sept. 19 and 20, the weekend before UCR’s fall quarter starts.</description>

A little-known comic book character considered one of the first Black superheroes is getting a revival by a team of artists including UC Riverside professor John Jennings.
Jennings, a professor of media and cultural studies and an award-winning graphic novelist, is one of the creators behind “The Adventures of Lion Man,” an anthology graphic novel released Aug. 12 by Rosarium Publishing.</description>

UC Riverside admitted a total of 71,069 first-year and transfer students for fall 2025, a new record. It far exceeded the previous record of 51,345, set last year.
"Offering admission to more students this year reflects our deep commitment to expanding opportunities for students who aspire to attend a world-class university, like UCR,” said Veronica Zendejas, undergraduate admissions director. “We’re growing in a way that’s intentional and student-centered, with new programs, expanded housing, and investments that enhance the undergraduate experience across the board.”</description>

America withdrew its troops from Vietnam in 1973 and South Vietnam fell in 1975. The “fall” (or, in the official Vietnamese view the “reunification”) of Saigon was the subject of many 50th anniversary events this past spring on April 30th. This year also marks a far less-studied milestone: the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of full diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Vietnam in July 1995. Since then, a once-feared “enemy” of the United States has become, in the language of the U.S.</description>
