  <title>Roger Ransom: A Riversider and a Renaissance man</title>

Roger Ransom, who was on the UCR faculty for more than 40 years, died Dec. 28 at 87. He outlived his prognosis by many years following a 2014 diagnosis of multiple myeloma.</description>

America withdrew its troops from Vietnam in 1973 and South Vietnam fell in 1975. The “fall” (or, in the official Vietnamese view the “reunification”) of Saigon was the subject of many 50th anniversary events this past spring on April 30th. This year also marks a far less-studied milestone: the 30th anniversary of the re-establishment of full diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Vietnam in July 1995. Since then, a once-feared “enemy” of the United States has become, in the language of the U.S.</description>

History professor Steven Hackel is the exhibition’s lead curator. The museum’s galleries now offer a more comprehensive history surrounding the Catholic mission’s life with the help of baptismal records, textiles, baskets, paintings, and audio recordings.</description>

That’s why for more than a year a team co-led by a UC Riverside cultural and urban historian interviewed, researched, and documented the lives of Boyle Heights residents — all in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. For centuries, Boyle Heights, a community three miles east of downtown Los Angeles, has been home to generations of immigrants and social justice movements.&amp;nbsp;
