Ronald Loveridge, associate professor of political science at UC Riverside, was presented with a 2026 Poppy Award from the California Association of Councils of Governments for his efforts to support UCR students and advocate for good regional governance.

The UCR-led Civic Engagement Research Group, led by Professor Joseph Kahne, will receive $600,000 in grants for its Civic Impact Project, which aims to improve education in civics in the United States and strengthen democracy.

A harrowing escape from Afghanistan led Amena Sadat to UCR

Seated in front of UC Riverside’s signature UCR sign at the HUB Plaza, doctoral student Amena Sadat was dressed in a cream-colored and gold embroidered shalwar kameez on a sunny spring afternoon. The traditional dress was a reminder of the harrowing journey she took from her native Afghanistan to pursue her dreams of attaining higher education.
