UC Riverside concluded its 71st Commencement season on June 17, with UCR’s Class of 2025 walking at eight discipline- or degree-based ceremonies. Approximately 6,100 graduates, 35,000 in-person guests, 32,000 online streamers, and about 375 volunteer staff participated in the celebrations, which started on June 6. Highlanders belonging to specific groups also took part in additional micro celebrations organized by various student resources like the University Honors Cording, and year-end celebrations hosted by UCR’s ethnic and gender centers.

UC Riverside’s business, education, and engineering programs placed high in U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 rankings of graduate programs in the U.S.  The School of Business climbed 17 positions for its part-time Master of Business Administration, or MBA, program to rank No. 56 in the nation. The Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering, or BCOE, ranked No. 89 overall, saw increases in five programs. The School of Education ranked No. 90 overall among 258 schools with doctoral-level programs.

UCR secures UC grant to build diverse engineering faculty

The University of California system has awarded UC Riverside a $549,785 grant to expand efforts to diversify its engineering faculty. The award from the UC Office of the President aims to increase faculty diversity in UCR’s Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering, or BCOE, by recruiting and mentoring prospective candidates before they formally enter the academic job market.

UC Riverside engineering students are benefiting from hands-on technical experiences to prepare for careers in advanced electronic engineering fields, thanks to equipment and software donations from Keysight Technologies.  The state-of-the-art equipment from Keysight, an electronic design and test solutions company based in Santa Rosa, Calif., includes high-performance oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and waveform generators.

About 170 people attended the dinner at the Mission Inn including faculty honorees and their family members, campus leaders, and deans, department chairs, and distinguished faculty. Faculty members were recognized for their promotions and advancements in the last academic year.  Elizabeth Watkins, UCR’s provost and executive vice chancellor, congratulated faculty members on their advancements, noting that she reviews all merit and promotion files.

Two online graduate programs at UC Riverside’s Marlan and Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering are once again among the 2025 U.S. News Best Online Programs. The online master’s in information technology program was ranked No. 17 nationwide while the online engineering graduate program was No. 28. Both represented improvements from the previous year when information technology was No. 21 and online engineering was No. 30. This is the third year both programs were included in the U.S. News list.
