{"id":8600,"date":"2017-06-09T09:15:19","date_gmt":"2017-06-09T16:15:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ideasandsociety.ucr.edu\/?p=8600"},"modified":"2017-06-12T11:15:59","modified_gmt":"2017-06-12T18:15:59","slug":"some-thoughts-on-movement-and-the-mmtw-allegra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ideasandsociety.ucr.edu\/news\/some-thoughts-on-movement-and-the-mmtw-allegra\/","title":{"rendered":"Some Thoughts on Movement and the #MMTW &#8211; Allegra"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/allegralaboratory.net\/some-thoughts-on-movement-and-the-mmtw-priya-srinivasan\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/ideasandsociety.ucr.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/mss-dance-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was the moment that the sociologist from University of Amsterdam <a href=\"http:\/\/uva.academia.edu\/OlgaSezneva\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Olga Sezneva<\/a> announced \u201cI will be a talking artifact\u201d while striking a pose in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allardpiersonmuseum.nl\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Allard Pierson Museum<\/a> in Amsterdam that I knew our collaboration would work and that I was in the right place. The whole group burst into laughter and we continued our work of live performance in the museum engaging with the objects in the museum and also inserting our own objects into the exhibits. I had recently joined the <em>Moving Matters<\/em>\u00a0 group and was excited to bring my movement practices to the group at <a href=\"http:\/\/susanossman.com\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Susan Ossman<\/a>\u2019s invitation. Although Susan had invited me to join the group in 2013 after reading my book <a href=\"http:\/\/www.temple.edu\/tempress\/titles\/2122_reg.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Sweating Saris: Indian Dance as Transnational Labor<\/em><\/a>, I could not do so because I was actually \u201cserially migrating\u201d from California to Shanghai and then to Rotterdam.
