Metal enthusiast and writer Jonathan Keplinger delves into the depths of extreme metal on a mission to investigate one of its darkest abysses: funeral doom. Join us as we journey to its birthplace--early-'90s Finland--and follow the spread of its eldritch tendrils through the decades. Audio examples will be plentiful!
BIO
Jonathan Keplinger is staff pianist for the music department at UC Riverside and a devotee of all things extreme metal. While his career as a professional musician is in collaborative piano--particularly classical music, opera, choral music, and musical theater--his extracurricular activities include listening to and analyzing copious amounts of death metal, as well as writing numerous metal-related articles and reviews of metal albums.
