We will begin with a brief introduction to the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF), including how IIIF supports high-resolution image delivery, interoperability across repositories, and scholarly annotation workflows. This overview will provide useful context for faculty, graduate students, and digital scholarship practitioners who work with archival materials, visual culture collections, or digital exhibits.

Following the introduction, our guest speaker will provide a hands-on demonstration of Glycerine’s core features, including:

Loading and navigating IIIF manifestsCreating and managing annotationsCollaborative and pedagogical use casesIntegrating annotated materials into research and teaching workflows

This workshop is suitable for researchers, instructors, students, and anyone interested in image annotations and IIIF-based tools.

Guest Speaker: Isobel Andrews is Implementation and Design Lead at Systemik Solutions, an innovative consulting group and Digital Humanities lab based in Sydney. Systemik is the team behind Glycerine, a IIIF-compatible image annotation platform for research, curation, and education. Isobel consults directly with Digital Humanities clients to implement their projects using Glycerine and Systemik's other digital platforms. Her background is in information management and library sciences, and she champions FAIR principles in all areas of her work.

Join us this May the 4th for a hands-on workshop where we bridge the gap between imagination and reality. Whether you’re a Padawan to 3D modeling or a seasoned Knight, you’ll learn how to use Autodesk Fusion to design a custom LEGO lightsaber hilt.

What You’ll Do: Learn CAD Basics: Master the fundamentals of sketching, revolving, and extruding in a professional-grade design software.Precision Design: Learn how to model with "tolerances" so your hilt actually fits onto standard LEGO bricks and figures.From Screen to Reality: Once your design is complete, we’ll prep your file for the 3D printer, turning your digital hilt into a physical trophy you can take home. UCR Library AI Tools Series

AI large language models have demonstrated rapid performance progress in the last few years across reasoning, coding, and domain-specific research benchmarks — including Abstract Reasoning (ARC), Coding (SWE-Bench), and Graduate-Level Academic Disciplines (GPQA Diamond). For researchers and learners at all levels the critical question is which model best fits their specific research, learning needs, and academic disciplinary contexts.

This workshop dives deep into the current AI LLM benchmark landscape, examining use cases for both academic research and learning. Participants will review recent top benchmarks against the current top global LLM models, including both Western and open-source Chinese models, exploring various models' unique affordances, strengths, and limitations. The session will be valuable for researchers at all levels — students, faculty, and staff — who want to make informed decisions about which models to integrate into their research and learning workflows.

Beyond model selection, the workshop will offer practical recommendations for working with models across a range of research and learning tasks, including strategies for human/AI collaboration and obtaining strong results through cross-model meta-analysis, synthesis of research and data, and report-based and data-driven visualization.

If you have data in a spreadsheet that you need to map, this workshop will help you understand how to proceed. We’ll look at spreadsheet formatting, creating point locations from tabular data, and adding tabular data to existing mapped features.

The virtual Disability Ally Workshop seeks to facilitate awareness, understanding, and competency of disability through connecting faculty, staff and students with resources, knowledge and relationships of disability as diversity. Participants in this program will gain knowledge about what it means to truly be an ally for students with disabilities.
