My dissertation explores the pan-Pacific social and artistic milieu of Los Angeles in the 1920s and 30s, and the unique modernist painting style that arose from it, through the lives and works of artists Stanton Macdonald Wright, Benji Okubo, Hideo Date, and Mabel Alvarez.
